Days to Harvest: 70 to 90 days.
Light: Sunny, partial shade in hot weather.
Temperature: Cold season, but seeds germinate best between 70° to 80° F.
Companions: Tomatoes, onions, garlic and lettuce.
Avoid Planting Near: Dill, parsnip and radish.
Preparation: After transplanting, mulch to conserve water and reduce weeds.
Planting: Plant early enough in spring that crop is harvested before weather is too hot. You can also replant in summer, two months before expected fall frost for a second crop.
Spacing: 6 inches between plants, 18 to 24 inches between rows.
Water: Water in morning so leaves dry by night.
Tips: Mature plants will withstand frosts and overwinter for an early spring harvest.
